Summer 2016 Blockbuster Movies
/Though I’m not particularly a fan of hot weather, something that I definitely enjoy about summer is the blockbuster movies that are released.
I just finished seeing Captain America: Civil War this past weekend. It was Marvelous! (Get it? Marvel-ous?) I thoroughly enjoyed it. The film did an excellent job balancing character development with a cohesive storyline, and gripping emotional stakes between personal retributions and international politics and terrorism. Thankfully, the producers extended the length of the film to credibly fit in all the angles they were trying to address. And was WONDERFUL to get yet another high-quality dose of Black Widow (Yay!). Even better, the film left us wondering, “Where do we go from here?” (That’s a quick shout out to all you Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans who remember the musical episode Once More, With Feeling. By far, one of the best in the Buffy universe! But I digress…)
I’m anxious to see how character relationships and teamwork dynamics proceed in the next Avengers installment, Infinity War, Part I. I suppose we’ll just have to wait until 2018 to find out.
Here’s some other summer films that I’m looking forward to seeing:
X-Men: Apocalypse (What? Yet another “big baddie” trying to end civilization as we know it?)
Alice Through the Looking Glass (A final curtain call for the late and great Alan Rickman. RIP, Alan. -- Severus Snape will live forever!)
Star Trek Beyond (Happy to see the rebooted gang back together again.)
Suicide Squad (I’m very stoked about this one! And about Margot Robie.)
There’s even more films to talk about coming in the fall, but let’s wait until later this summer to talk about those. There’s already much to look forward to this summer!
Speaking of movies, guess what arrived in my mailbox last week? A Blu-ray copy of Deadpool!
That’s right…it’s time to make the chimichangas.
Oh, how I can’t wait to watch that movie again. Deadpool is one of my top-three favorite superhero films of all time! (For the record, the first Avengers film and The Dark Knight are the other two.) It’s hilarious, action-packed, and wholly irreverent. The fact that Deadpool breaks the fourth wall so frequently in the film is totally epic to me. I laughed myself silly.
Here’s my two questions for you. First, which movies are you excited about seeing this summer. And second, what are your three favorite superhero films of all time?
Drop me a comment and let me know.
Until later, enjoy life; be kind to those around you, and Happy Reading! Peace.
